UK Recognition
On 20th June, the day before Forvik's Declaration of Dependence was published, the UK government Justice Department issued a statement regarding Forvik. We are flattered that they are following our progress so closely as it indicates they are taking our actions seriously. The statement reads as follows:
"Under the UK constitution Forvik is part of the Shetland Islands, which
is subject to UK legislation. The people of Shetland pay taxes to the
United Kingdom Exchequer and elect MPs to the UK Parliament. Forvik is
an integral part of the UK."
Since Forvik did not exist until the next day, this constitutes recognition by the UK government. Unfortunately they still insist that Forvik is part of the UK because it is part of the Shetland Islands, which they insist is part of Scotland. When they can provide a credible date on which Shetland became part of Scotland we will drop all claim to Crown Dependency status. Until that time we rely on the historical, legal and constitutional evidence that supports our stand. We look forward to establishing diplomatic relations with them as soon as they desist from these spurious claims.
Stuart Hill,
Steward of the Crown Dependency of Forvik Island.
Since this was written, Forvik has declared complete independence from Scotland and the United Kingdom.
