This is the correspondence to discover how the UK government gets its  authority in Shetland. It relies on the fiction that Shetland is part of Scotland. I am simply asking how and when it happened.

I am now in correspondence with the Justice Department in the UK and The Scottish Government in Scotland. Nobody is giving me an answer.

I am not submitting Self-Assessment forms for Income Tax. Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) threatened legal action in April 2008, but have backed off, saying I no longer need to submit Self-Assessment forms. If I don't submit the forms, how do they know what I am earning? Maybe they agree with me that Shetland does not come under UK tax legislation!

I am withholding VAT. HMRC threatened dire consequences in 14 days on July 25, 2008, but nothing since.

A spokesman for HMRC was quoted in Scotland on Sunday 11 January 2009: "People cannot just declare they are a different country and refuse to pay taxation. Everyone living in the UK has to comply with the laws of the land." Quite so, but they are not able to explain how Shetland became part of the UK. We are just supposed to take it for granted.

The Shetland Islands Council has raised a Council Tax Demand on the property I have built without planning permission.  I have refused to pay. They have a statutory duty to collect this tax, but have so far taken no action.

The latest  test is to put a car on the road in Shetland with Forvik Numberplates, Forvik tax disc and Forvik country of registration sticker.

If these authorities were sure of their ground, they would simply take me to court. They can't afford to let me get away with it, otherwise everybody would do the same. They don't want to take me to court because they know they will have to explain how they derive their authority. The longer I am allowed to break the 'law', the stronger my case becomes.
